One dead in Port Charlotte crash

One person is dead after crashing into a fence on Hammond Avenue in Port Charlotte.

The single vehicle crash happened before 6 p.m. Saturday.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, 29-year-old Charles Sorrentino was driving a 2005 Mercedes SLK350 south on Orlando Boulevard and turning left onto Hammond Avenue when he lost control.

He then collided with a fence on the property of 119 Allworthy Street, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Sorrentino was transported to Bayfront Health in Port Charlotte where he was pronounced dead.

Alcohol has been ruled out as a factor in the crash.

It is unclear if Sorrentino was wearing a seatbelt.
