Lee County Sheriff's deputies have just identified the decedent of the death investigation in the Pine Manor community of Fort Myers.

Deputies arrived on scene Monday night just before 8pm. Crime scene tape was still surrounding the home Tuesday morning.

Deputies say 4-month-old Alexander Laureano was found unresponsive. The mother told deputies the baby was hungry so she made him a bottle and placed a blanket on the floor and slept next to him. A few hours later, she noticed Alexander laying on his belly, unresponsive, and cold to the touch while his nose was bleeding.
She says a neighbor attempted CPR on the 4 month old as they waited for an ambulance.

“The feeling is just unbearable,” Jose Laureano, Alexander's uncle said. "A mother or father losing their own child, that’s something I don’t wish upon anybody."

The Lee County Sheriff's Office has spent hours on 10th Avenue conducting a death investigation. Valerie Custodie heard the baby's mother wailing and asking for help.

"I heard screaming and crying," Custodie said. "Somebody came out of one of the apartments and hollered to call 911.”

While deputies swarmed to the scene, neighbor say they still can't believe Alexander took his last breath at just 4 months old.

"It still makes me tear up to think about it," Custodie said. "That poor thing has not had his life yet. You just cry for the fact that he’s not here anymore."

The Sheriff's Office says they don't suspect foul play at this time and that they autopsy will determine the cause of death. Meanwhile, Alexander's uncle insists there's more to the story.

"He was always smiling. There was nothing wrong with him," Laureano said. "Something's not adding up."
Alexander was one of two children. Family members tell Four In Your Corner DCF has removed the other child from the home.

The Sheriff's Office says this is still an ongoing investigation.
