CAPE CORAL , Fla. -- Police closed off a Cape Coral street for a homicide investigation Monday morning.

At around 1:20 AM, Cape Coral Police responded to the 1200 block of NE 23 Terrace on a suspicious circumstances call.  At 1216 NE 23rd Terrace, they found 39-year-old Dayvin K. Johnson deceased from an apparent gunshot wound. The scene has since been cleared by authorities.

According to Cape Coral Police, the incident was not a random incident and they do not believe there is a danger to the general public.

A neighbor told Fox 4 she heard about four gun shots, one and then three immediately after, then later saw police activity in the area.  Other neighbors say they head shots between Midnight and 12:05 a.m. "It sounded like at least four first one was boom and then boom boom boom. I wasn't sure if they were gun shots or backfire," said Sheila Sweeney, who lived nearby. "And when I got up this morning I saw the police and the crime scene tape and I said to Bill, wow that must've been gun shots."

She tells Fox 4 the neighborhood is typically very quiet. Another neighbor said a nice family lives in the home that police were investigating. "We met them one night at a party with all the neighbors and I cannot believe that something happened here," he said.

Police spent time searching through each vehicle in the home's driveway. Sweeney said although the sight of several police cars and crime scene units is unusual and startling, she's not scared and doesn't believe the neighborhood is dangerous. "I'm thinking it must've been something targeted and not just a random act of violence or anything like that."
