One child is dead and another child suffers from serious injuries after a boat crash that occurred near the Midpoint Bridge on Saturday, according to Cape Coral Police.
The crash occurred at about 9:30 a.m..
The four people, all related, involved in the crash were traveling to Key West for Memorial Day weekend, a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokesperson said.
FWC say the 32-foot vessel, traveling in the channel, collided with the bridge.
12-year-old Noah Pollock, died as a result of the crash. His 10-year-old brother, Wayde Pollock, was air lifted to the Tampa General Hospital and is in critical condition, according to FWC.
The operator of the boat, who is said to be the grandfather, 72-year-old Benjamin Tipton, was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries. The father, Ryan Pollock, was treated with minor injuries and has since been released from the hospital.
CCPD, FMPD and FWC are currently on scene.
Everest Boat Ramp will be closed for the next several hours as authorities continue to investigate the scene.
Residents, drivers ,and boaters are asked to seek alternate routes.
