FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. - A fire completely destroyed a sailboat off the coast of Fort Myers Beach early Tuesday morning.

The Fort Myers Beach Fire Chief, Jake Lamb, says the fire started in the generator of a white sailboat anchored in the water around 2 a.m.

Lamb says the captain then abandoned the boat in a kayak.

Five rescue boats were called to the fire, but our crew on scene saw Bonita Fire Department arrive first and put out the flames.

Four In Your Corner was the first media on scene.

What's left of the boat will remain the water until Florida Fish and Wildlife retrieves it.

No one was injured in the incident.
