FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. -- A body was found off Fort Myers Beach Sunday morning, according to Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office got a call about the startling discovery at Bowditch Point Park around 7:30 A.M., and then turned the investigation over to FWC. They were seen investigating the area, but cleared by the afternoon.

"It's beautiful, it's Easter weekend, and that's just really sad that something like that would happen," said one beach goer.

FWC confirmed 64-year-old Rodney Maab of Fort Myers Beach was found floating about 15 feet offshore. His boat was found floating approximately 300 yards south of where he was found in Matanzas Pass.

What led to the death remains unclear. However, FWC is classifying it as a boating accident.
