LEE COUNTY, Fla. – Officials say no kids were inside a building when a fire broke out at San Carlos Park Elementary on Friday morning.

It happened around 6 a.m. Friday, long before classes started, but there is a before-school program that starts at 6:30 a.m. that students potentially go to in the morning.

A school staff member reported seeing flames and smoke coming from the corner of the school's roof, near the bus ramp.

The Lee County School District confirms the fire happened on the roof and there were no injuries. School staff members are on scene working with the fire department.

Classes start at 7:55 a.m. at the school, and are expected to proceed as normal Friday.

Right now, it’s unclear at this time how this fire started.
