FORT MYERS, Fla. -- A San Carlos Park home has been declared uninhabitable after an early morning fire.
It happened around 12:15 a.m. Wednesday at a home on Park Road at Creek Drive.
According to San Carlos Park Fire Chief David Cambareri, four people, along with four cats, were living inside. And all the people made it out safely, but only one cat survived.
The family says they made it out alive because they had a working fire alarm.
Fire officials say the fire started toward the back of the house, but did not say what specifically started it.
The Red Cross is on the scene helping the family with the loss of their home.
San Carlos Park, Estero, and South Trail fire departments all responded.
