The state Fire Marshal is working to find out what caused a house fire in North Port that destroyed a home and left the family's pets missing.
The fire broke out just before 2:00 am, Monday at a home in the 4800 block of Weatherton Street.
Investigators say the homeowners were out of town at the time of the fire and no one else was inside when the flames began. No one was injured, but the family's pets, which were being watched by neighbors, are missing.
According to North Port Police, the home was already a complete loss before fire crews were able to arrive.
