NORTH PORT, Fla. -- Police have made an arrest in the murder of a North Port man over money and drugs.

26-year-old Marquis "Choppa" Harris has been charged with 2nd Degree Murder and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, both felonies.

According to North Port Police, Harris lives across the street from where the murder of 22-year-old Jaquavies Rivers took place on Monday, in the 2400 block of Roxbury Circle.

Police say Harris got into an argument with Rivers over a burglary of money and drugs, and Harris ended it by pistol-whipping Rivers and then shooting him in the head at point blank range.

This investigation continues and more charges are pending. If you know anything about this incident, please contact Det. James Keller at 941-429-7322 or jkeller@northportpd.com.
