LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- The Lee County Sheriff's Office and Bonita Springs Fire Department are on the scene of a plane crash off Bonita Beach Road. The small plane left Page Field Airport (FMY).

A distress call was made 13 to 15 minutes after the plane took off. One person is deceased and because it is still unknown if anyone else was on the plane the search continues around the area of the crash.

"At the current moment we have crews out there doing a wide search of the area, to see if there was anyone actually ejected from the crash site besides the initial deceased person," said Bonita Springs Fire Chief Joseph Daigle.

The call came in around 12:23 p.m. Monday from near the Bonita National Golf Course.

The crash is in an inaccessible wooded area, crews are using ATVs to get to the scene.

No further details are available. The  NTSB is on the scene.
