Sheriffs investigate early morning shooting

Sheriffs are investigating a shooting and crash that occurred Sunday in Cape Coral.

It happened between the 200 and 400 block of Del Prado Blvd.

Traffic was diverted for several hours in that area but has since been reopened.

This is an ongoing investigation.

UPDATE (3/27) -- Cape Coral Police are investigating a shooting over the weekend that sent one person to the hospital and caused a traffic crash.

Sunday morning at around 2:44 AM, Cape Coral Police responded to a shooting and traffic crash that occurred in front of the Race Trac located at 314 Del Prado Boulevard N.

Two victims were located behind the business who stated that they left a party after having an argument with a known third subject.

The victims stated that they got into their car and that another vehicle followed them from the party. As the victims were driving near the 300 block of Del Prado Boulevard an unknown suspect shot at the victim’s vehicle striking one of the occupants. The driver then collided with a light pole in front of the Race Trac. The victims then ran from the scene, fearing the vehicle would return.

One victim was transported to a local hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.  Investigative Services Bureau Major Crimes Unit Detectives responded to the scene. Forensics personnel responded to process the crime scene.  LCEC responded to repair the light pole. A Ping4alert was sent, notifying drivers and resident s of the incident and road closure during the investigation.

The investigation is ongoing.  Additional updates will be provided as information becomes available.
