PUNTA GORDA, Fla. -- Two days after a dead body was discovered inside a parked car outside of a popular Punta Gorda hotel, police believe they know the cause.
The discovery was made around 6 p.m. Sunday after police received a call about a dead man found in a car in the parking lot of the Punta Gorda Hotel & Suites.
Punta Gorda police now say the believe the man found inside committed suicide.
Police have identified him as James Gill from Bradenton.
The uncertainty at first surrounding the death left some hotel visitors feeling uneasy.
"It's just shocking," said Suzanne Pasquariello. "I can't believe that something could happen right here in the parking lot with so many people around."
Police from the beginning assured the public there was no danger to them.
"I think everyone should really try and be aware. I'm with my granddaughter and my husband is always telling her you have to pay attention" said Pasquariello.
A formal ruling on Gill's death from the medical examiner's office is pending.
