PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -- A North Port man died and two others were seriously injured early Sunday morning when troopers say another car crossed into his lane and hit him head on.
It happened just after 2am on Atwater Street.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, 26-year-old Victor Meinitchouk was driving a minivan north on Atwater approaching Lorette Avenue when a southbound Chevy Volt crossed into his lane. The two vehicles crashed head-on.
Meinitchouk was taken to Fawcett Memorial, where he was pronounced dead. His passenger, 29-year-old Alese Sadler of Natick, Massachusetts, was seriously injured and taken to Lee Memorial for treatment.
The driver of the Volt, 40-year-old Ryan McConell of North Port was seriously injured and taken to Lee Memorial as well.
Charges are pending further investigation.
