CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- Police are still investigating a deadly crash that shut down Veterans Memorial Parkway for several hours Monday night.
It happened at 6:43 p.m. and caused the closure of Veterans Memorial Parkway for several hours.
Police say 42-year-old Joseph Mancini was heading west on Veterans near Country Club Boulevard when he suffered a medical episode and veered into oncoming traffic, where he crashed head-on with an eastbound car and had a chain-reaction collision with two other cars.
The driver of the other car in the main collision, 52-year-old Jose Nieves of Cape Coral, later died at the hospital.
Mancini, meanwhile, remains in the hospital with critical injuries.
The crash is not considered alcohol or drug-related.
