COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. -- The body recovered from a canal in Golden Gate by deputies has been identified as 22-year-old Carlos Rojas.
A passer-by discovered a body in the canal near the intersection of 39th Street Southwest and 13th Avenue Southwest shortly after 3p.m. Monday and contacted the Collier County Sheriff's Office. Thee CCSO dive team responded and removed the body.
Detectives used fingerprints to identify Rojas, they also say his death does not appear to be suspicious at this time.
Rojas' live-in girlfriend reported him missing around 1a.m. Monday. She told CCSO detectives that Rojas had left their home around 5:30 p.m. Saturday to get a haircut and never returned.
She said she went looking for him and found him with friends at Bamboo Garden, about 10:30 p.m. She said she returned home without Rojas, expecting he would return home later, but he never did.
Rojas did not own a car and walked every where that he went.
COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. -- We're still working to learn about of the person who's body was recovered from a Golden Gate canal Monday.
This was along Collier Boulevard near 39th Street Southwest.
Deputies say they won't know who the victim is, how he or she died, or if the case is suspicious, until the medical examiner completes an autopsy.
