FORT MYERS, Fla. -- The search is on for a couple that reportedly stole a ten-week-old French bulldog puppy from a Petland store.  Store officials say it's a puppy is in need of medication.

In a post to the Facebook page for Petland Ft. Myers on Tuesday, surveillance images show a woman and man that reportedly distracted store staff to steal a French bulldog.

"She's really playful, that's the problem. She's super cute, so it's understandable why someone would want to steal her," Petland Sales Manager James Chojnacki said.

Chojnacki said the dog has a respiratory infection, and they were letting her run around in a play area for some exercise when the woman took the puppy. The man walked out with a ferret in his pocket.

Chojnacki said the puppy's condition was improving, but he's concerned about relapse.

"Who's going to suffer is that little puppy, and it's an innocent little animal," Amanda Gostigian, who was adopting a dog from Petland, said.

Chojnacki said the owner of the 7-Eleven on Summerlin contacted him saying the man in the photo used a credit card to buy cigarettes there the night before he went to Petland, so he's hoping to have a name of this man soon.

He also said he spoke with the owner of another pet store, who said the couple tried to do the same thing to them on Tuesday.

If you have any information at all that will help them recover this dog please call the store at 239-277-9939.
