SUV backs into path of motorcyclist, killing him

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -- A motorcyclist is dead after a crashing into an SUV pulling out of a driveway in Charlotte County.

It happened Wednesday around 5:19 p.m. on Fireside Street near Coachman Avenue.  that's in the neighborhood west of Harbor Boulevard and north of Midway Boulevard.

Florida Highway Patrol says the SUV was backing out of the driveway of a home onto Fireside but the driver did not see the motorcycle approaching southbound.

The motorcycle hit the rear of the SUV and the driver fell off.  The motorcyclist, 43-year-old Aaron Wesley of Port Charlotte, was pronounced dead at the scene.  He was not wearing a helmet during the crash.

The driver of the SUV, 61-year-old Stephen Lawrence, has not been charged, but the crash is still under investigation.
