NAPLES, Fla. -- Police say a teenager was showing off a handgun to friends Monday when he was shot in the head. He later died from his wounds.
17-year-old Thomas Lane died Monday night at Naples Community Hospital.
According to Naples Police, on Monday evening Lane was with three other friends, ages 19-22, who were sitting in a car in the parking garage near Macy's at the Coastland Center Mall.
Police say Lane was displaying a 9mm handgun to the friends moments before the gun fired, striking him in the jaw.
He was rushed to the hospital while unconscious, but later died from the injury.
An investigation is still under way to determine whether the gun fired accidentally.
