Dramatic dolphin rescue carried out on Marco Island after Hurricane Irma

MARCO ISLAND, Fla. -- Southwest Florida is on the road to recovery after getting hammered by Hurricane Irma. But people weren't the only ones affected -- local wildlife was also put in jeopardy.

And Four in Your Corner's Tony Russell ended up becoming part of the crew that saved a dolphin in distress on Marco Island.

Hurricane Irma made landfall on the island Sunday, bringing heavy winds and storm surge across the island.  But while Tony and his photographer toured the island surveying damage Monday morning, they went to the beach and found an injured dolphin.

Tony joined with seven other residents who teamed up to carry the dolphin back down the beach and into the heavy surf, where it briefly struggledd before swimming off down the beach.

"Unbelievable just to save an animal like that.  We struggled yesterday with the storm, but look at him," said one of the rescuers.
