FHP pursuit ends in Cape Coral crash, authorities say the driver was reckless

CAPE CORAL, Fla. — Florida Highway Patrol says they were pursuing a Ford sedan for reckless driving when it failed to stop on SR-78 (Pine Island Road) and Judd Creek Boulevard.

FHP says they lost visual contact with the Ford as it traveled through the Walmart parking lot in Cape Coral.

The Ford left the parking lot and traveled south on Hibiscus Drive where it ran a stop sign at the intersection of Pondella Road.

The Ford was struck by a Kia going west. The driver of the Ford was transported to Gulf Coast Hospital with serious injuries.

The passenger in the Ford as well as the driver of the Kia were transported to Cape Coral Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Witnesses told us they saw part of the chase through a nearby Walmart parking lot before watching the head-on crash.

The road was shutdown in both directions around 5 p.m. Tuesday.
