FHP investigating fatal crash on U.S. 41 in Charlotte County

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. — Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is investigating a fatal crash in Charlotte County.

FHP says a man was killed and a teenager was hurt in the crash on U.S. 41 (Tamiami Trail) and Green Gulf Boulevard in Punta Gorda at 3:14 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

According to FHP, an 18-year-old driver and his teenage passenger were traveling south on U.S. 41 approaching Notre Dame Boulevard. When a car driven by a 59-year-old Punta Gorda man was making a right turn from Notre Dame Boulevard onto southbound U.S. 41. The teen driver's car collided with the rear of the other vehicle which caused it to overturn.

Troopers say the 59-year-old man died on the scene of the crash.

The 18-year-old driver and his passenger were taken to the hospital.

The crash is under investigation.
