Brush fire now contained in Charlotte County

UPDATE (6:30pm): Approximately 40 homes were evacuated.

Fire is 95 percent contained.

None of the evacuated homes caught fire.

Two Charlotte County Fire and EMS firefighters sustained minor injuries.

Florida Forest Services says fire crews will be monitoring the area throughout the night for and hot spots.

UPDATE (3:20pm): Approximately 40 homes were evacuated.

Englewood FD, Boca Grande FD, NPFD, two engine strike teams from Lee County (made up of a supervisor and five engines), CCSO air support, two forestry helicopters and fixed wing aircraft, plus seven ground units, along with Charlotte County Fire and EMS assisted in fighting the fire.


UPDATE (3:00pm): Fox 4 has just received information that the fire is about fifty percent contained and is about 60 to 80 acres.

Two additional helicopters are on route to help.


UPDATE (1:55pm): The Charlotte County Sheriffs Office is asking folks between Masthead Road and Brig Circle. to evacuate.

The fire is still moving toward Boundary Boulevard.

Charlotte County Fire and EMS has said the fire is now 60 acres.

UPDATE (12:13pm): Fox 4 has confirmed the brush fire is rapidly moving.

The brush fire is now located in the area of Brig Circle South, located in the Rotonda Lakes area of West Charlotte County.

Some homes are being evacuated.

Charlotte County Sheriff's Office Aviation is assisting in fire suppression measures.

The Charlotte County Fire & EMS have confirmed a brush fire in the area of the South Gulf Cove area.

Englewood and North Port agencies are assisting with mutual aid.

The fire is currently a few acres, and there is heavy fuel.

Two homes currently threatened and being protected.

Fox 4 is currently sending crews to the scene.
