LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. — UPDATE: Nearly 30 emergency units quickly knocked a brush fire that was threatening some homes in Lehigh Acres Wednesday afternoon.

It happened near Griffin Drive and State Road 82.

The wind made it challenging at first to put the fire out but crews were able to get it under control thanks to coordination and team work.

“It was a great response, a great show of resources that we have,” said resident, Tim Walsh. “I’m pretty pleased with knowing if I wasn’t home, these homes are kept safe.”

Almost 3 acres of land was impacted. Right now, the cause is under investigation but the dry weather could be a factor.

The South Trail Fire Department is responding to a brush fire located on Griffin Drive and SR 82.

Counties North and South have been contacted for brush trucks, and the Department of Forestry is working on the fire.

The fire department says the fire is 100% contained but still burning.
