Mega Millions lottery jackpot grows to record $970 million for the October 19, 2018 drawing

The Mega Millions jackpot is now the second largest in U.S. lottery history after no one matched all six numbers in Tuesday night's drawing.

The jackpot for the Friday, October 19 drawing is now an estimated $970 million. The cash value of the jackpot is $548 million.

The $1.586.4 billion Powerball jackpot on January 13, 2016, won by tickets sold in California, Florida and Tennessee, and is the all-time largest lottery jackpot in American history.

One ticket sold in Florida matched five of Tuesday's numbers and is worth $1 million. Nine tickets sold in the Sunshine State matched four numbers and the MegaBall and are worth at least $10,000.

In total, there were ten tickets sold nationwide that matched all five white numbers.

The last time anyone won the Mega Millions jackpot was on July 24, when 11 co-workers in a California office pool split at $543 jackpot. Three other Mega Millions jackpots have been won in 2018: $451 million on January 5 in Florida, $533 million on March 30 in New Jersey, and $142 million on May 4 in Ohio.

Each Mega Millions ticket costs two dollars to purchase. The deadline to buy a ticket for the $868 million jackpot is 10:00 p.m. EDT on Friday, October 19.
