Law enforcement officer shoots suspect at Mel's Diner in Fort Myers

UPDATE 4:35 p.m.:

The US Marshal's Office has identified the suspect shot by law enforcement.

His name is Myles Strickland and is wanted out of Polk County for several crimes, including grand theft with a firearm.

A spokesperson told Fox 4 he was staying at the Baymont by Wyndham next to the diner.

UPDATE:

Police say this incident was a US Marshal Task Force shooting.

ORIGINAL REPORTING:

The Fort Myers Police Department confirms a shooting has occurred at Mel's Diner on Cleveland Avenue.

Police tell us the suspect is in custody, and has been taken to a local hospital.

No law enforcement or bystanders were injured.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating.

FMPD says it will cooperate and assist with the investigation.
