LEE COUNTY, Fla. – Volunteers in Southwest Florida were chipping in this holiday season to help bring meals to those that need them.

About 2,500 volunteers packed more than 500,000 meals at the "Meals of Hope Holidays Without Hunger" event over the weekend at the Lee Civic Center.

The community gathered to pack ready-to-go packages of soup. All of the food packed helps families in Southwest Florida.

"We had about 2,000 people here today, and we packed over 5,500 meals of our fortified chicken and vegetable soup. That is already in route to the food bank and that will go to about 200 food pantries around Southwest Florida," said Meals of Hope CEO Stephen Popper.

Members of the Fox 4 family were also there. Both on air staff and some behind the scenes workers brought their families to help with the packing of the food.
