A new report showed there were thousands of teacher positions available in Florida just weeks before the school year started.

The Florida Department of Education released the reportwhich also revealed there are currently job openings throughout the state.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, there were 4,000 open teacher jobs before the school year started which is up 1,000 positions from 2017.

Low pay for teachers has been a topic of debate across the nation, and some believe this could be one of the reasons for the shortage.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott recently said he wants to offer the best teachers six-figure salaries as a solution to the issue in his state.

Fox San Antonio reported Gov. Abbott mentioned the idea during a roundtable discussion with teachers on Monday.
