FORT MYERS, Fla. -- The community will have a chance to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and local residents, as well as raise funds for a local community organization this weekend.
The Dunbar Festival Committee is hosting the 2020 MLK Legacy Honors Gala on Saturday, January 17th at 6 p.m.
The gala serves as the official kickoff for the Fort Myers Dr. King Celebration, and will be at The Collaboratory on Jackson Street off Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard in Fort Myers.
This is a formal event that brings together a cross-section of the community to celebrate the work of local residents in improving the community, the personal achievement of students, and the work we have going forward.
Presidential Honorees this year include Amber Smith, Jarrett Eady, and Keesha Allen. Hall of Fame Inductees will be Judge Archie Hayward, Attorney Joe North, and Rev. Israel Suarez.
The featured speaker is Dr. Jaffus Hardrick, Florida Memorial University President.
The emcees for the event are Fox 4 anchors Patrick Nolan and Shari Armstrong.
