FORT MYERS, Fla. -- The sandy shore of Bunche Beach holds great history for Fort Myers.
This beach, located on San Carlos Bay near Fort Myers Beach, was the only place where black residents could enjoy the sand when the area was segregated in 1949.
Named after Ralph Bunche, the first African-American to win the Noble Prize in 1950, Bunche Beach is unique in that the natural habitat is being preserved.
