LEE COUNTY, Fla. — To celebrate Black History Month Fox 4 is recognizing some of the most influential African Americans in Southwest Florida History.

Gwynetta S. Gittens made history when she was elected as the first African American school board member in Fort Myers.

Gittens was a former teacher that has served the Lee County School District for more than thirteen years.
