CAPE CORAL, Fla. — To celebrate Black History Month, Fox 4 is recognizing some of the most influential African Americans in Southwest Florida History.

In 1994 the City of Cape Coral had been searching for a new Police Chief.

The City combed through more than 150 applicants.

Arnold Gibbs made history with the Cape Coral Police Department when he was selected to fulfill the position.

This marked the first time in Southwest Florida History that an African American had been appointed to the position.
