FORT MYERS, Fla. — To celebrate Black History Month, Fox 4 is recognizing some of the most influential African Americans in Southwest Florida History.
The Jones Walker Hospital was the first hospital built exclusively to serve Lee County's black community in the 1920s.
The building was located on High Street in Fort Myers.
The hospital was court ordered it to close in 1968 so that all patients, regardless of race, could be treated at Lee Memorial.
