PUNTA GORDA, Fla. — Many southwest Floridians took part in Halloween tonight... trick or treating up and down their streets in the historic district of Punta Gorda. You may recall last Halloween one man was struck by a car in the area.
Tonight officers made it a priority to close several streets to make it safer for trick or treaters.
We talked to parents and locals out tonight and got their reaction.
One father says he not only appreciates the citys’ fast approach but he respects it
“ I think their approach and reaction to it would’ve been something i expect from the community, that’s was the best decision i think they could’ve done and i respect it,” said Timothy Howell
Another father remembers what happened last year. Tonight he said felt a sense of security bringing his 5 month old out.
“Its definitely safer now that’s the roads closed off so there is not more accidents like last year and we felt safe coming out here tonight,” said, Kyle Ray
One grand father says he plans to return next thanks to the security measures.
“Well it shows that city is pretty sharp they realized it would be better to close it off and just look at this crowds its incredible, i’ve been to a lot of parties in my life, id come back here every year,” said Tom Garbie
