CAPE CORAL, Fla. — All week we’ve been breaking record high temperatures, while other parts of the country are freezing.

Fox 4 spoke to the owner of The Red-headed Witches costume store in Cape Coral, about tips on how to stay cool this Halloween season.

“You want to be careful about wearing a mask, because as cool as the costumes may look, they won’t be cool temperature-wise,” says Chrissy Barchers.

Many manufacturers offer several versions of the same costume, so choose warm-weather friendly material.

“Alternative choices where the children are not in plush suits but maybe something thinner,” said Chrissy Barchers.

“Stay hydrated by drinking water, keep an ice pack to go on your neck. maybe bringing an umbrella to keep the sun off of you” said Barchers.

Mother of two, Chelsea Severance, is from Ohio and she usually dresses her daughter in layers. Temperatures are predicted to be in the 90’s Thursday,

“This year she finally got to wear something that was light fit, so she could run and be excited and not have to be too hot,” said Severance.
