Best beaches for dogs in Southwest Florida

Posted
and last updated

They're a member of your family and you take them everywhere.  But nothing makes your day at the beach more cloudy than the "no pets" sign.

In our 'Taste and See Southwest Florida' beach week list for today, we take you to the top 4 dog beaches.

BONITA BEACH

If you want to bring your favorite canine to the beach, wag on over to Bonita Beach Dog Park.  It's on the edge of Lover's Key State Park, along the Fort Myers/Bonita Springs line.

It's the place where your fluffy friend can literally get off the chain!

And even if they don't want to, you can give your dog the "B" word...a bath!  The park has doggie showers!  The floor mats in your car will thank you.

Bring your own water and parking is free.

GULFSIDE BEACH/ALGIERS BEACH

Maybe you feel a little safer with your buddy on a leash.  Gulfside Beach at Sanibel, or some call it Algiers Beach, has what you need.

Do remember to bring a few bones for parking, unless you come after 7pm.

FORT DeSOTO BEACH

And if picnicking with your pup is more your thing, try Fort DeSoto Beach Park near St. Petersburg.

If you don't mind a little drive, water is free.  And if you treat your dog like your child, guess what... there's a paw playground!

BROHARD PAW PARK VENICE

And if you really want to spoil your little muffin, sit them in their own beach and chair at Brohard Paw Park on Venice Beach.
