PHOTOS: Super blue blood moon makes an appearance over Southwest Florida Jan. 31
The super blue bloodmoon was visible Jan. 31 in the early morning hours.
A super moon occurs when a full moon happens at the moon's closest point to earth in its oribt. A blood moon occurs when sunbeams peek around the moon, giving it a reddish tint. And a blue moon? Well, it has nothing to do with the color. Instead, it is the second blue moon of a month.
