NAPLES, Fla. — The Collier County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal shooting just before 1 a.m. on Wednesday.
Deputies tell us one woman is dead. No suspect is in custody, though, as of 8:30 a.m. It happened near Texas Avenue and Mitchell Street, around 12:43 a.m.
There is no danger to the public, according to the office.
Larry Chapman lives nearby and told Fox 4 he and his fiance woke up to the sound of a gunshot.
"Its a very scary thing to wake up to on a Wednesday morning," he said. "She had heard a big bang noise - everybody obviously knows what a gunshot sounds like and she said, 'babe did you hear that?' and I said, 'yes I did.'"
The scene was between Lely High School and Parkside Middle School. Parents and students walked by the area to get to school.
"We can’t stop bad people from doing bad things at the end of the day," Chapman said. "Unfortunately crime is everywhere, but it's very detrimental to this neighborhood because we try and keep it as safe as we can - we’re literally in the middle of two schools.”
