3 Collier men arrested for robbery using toy gun

Posted

A toy gun and a pickup truck are the weapons that landed three Collier County men in jail over the weekend on robbery charges.

Deputies arrested Devon Charles, David Lee Moya, and Alfredo Garcia, all 18, after allegedly demanding money from people at a small party on 20th Place Southwest in Golden Gate late Saturday night.

Arrest reports show that witnesses told deputies the three men pulled up to a house at the corner of 20th Place SW and 41st Street Southwest in a red pickup truck. According to witnesses, the suspect later identified as Moya was carrying a pistol, and that they demanded money from some of the people hanging around outside the house.

Witnesses said the suspects started rummaging through one of the vehicles parked at the house, when one of the victims grabbed a machete and chased the intruders away. They said Moya dropped the pistol, which turned out to be a toy gun.

About 20 minutes later, witnesses told deputies that the three suspects returned. This time, the man who had brandished the machete grabbed a tire iron and smashed the pickup's windows. Deputies said that the driver, Alfredo Garcia, used his truck to hit the man with the tire iron in the arm.

Deputies arrived minutes later, and arrested Moya, Garcia and Charles. All three were charged with armed robbery.
