LEE COUNTY - A local Congressional candidate reacting tonight after her former campaign worker was gunned down Sunday night at his Cape Coral home. 39 year old Dayvin Johnson gunned down in cold blood at his cape coral home.. His friends say he was a good man, a community leader and his Facebook videos show he enjoyed martial arts. This tragic loss hitting close to home for local Democratic Congressional candidate April Freeman. After all, Johnson was her campaign staffer back in 2014. Now Freeman is reacting. In a written statement she tells us, "Today my family and I mourn the loss of our dear family friend, fellow community organizer and former campaign staff member, Dayvin Johnson.” “The sadness of losing a friend is only worsened when they've been taken by a senseless act of violence." Freeman goes on to say, "Our community has lost a champion for change.” “The death of Dayvin Johnson is something that my family and his family are still coming to terms with." Freeman is representing the 17th Congressional district; a newly formed district which includes nine counties throughout Southwest Florida.
