CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. -The Florida Highway Patrol's Bureau of Criminal Investigations and Intelligence arrested three family members from Charlotte County Thursday, charging them with title and odometer fraud.

Denis Kutsayev, Tamara Kutsayeva and Renat Kutsayev are accused of selling cars on Craiglist after rolling back the mileage, in order to make it seem more valuable.

According to police, the three also removed the word 'rebuilt' from the title and altered the mileage on the title before posting it online.

The report states that they once sold a car with 117,000 miles on Craigslist but only after rolling the odometer back to 46,335 miles.

"As a consumer, you have power. Don't just blindly buy something," said Lieutenant Greg Bueno with Florida Highway Patrol. "Ensure that everything is correct on the title. Make sure everything on the title matches up to the vehicle, that the person selling you the vehicle has show you a drivers license identification that matches up with the title," he adds.

If you plan on buying a car from an owner, Lt. Bueno also advises that you complete the transaction at the tax collectors office to ensure legitamacy. If you have any other questions, you can call the Florida Highway Patrol's Bureau of Criminal Investigations and Intelligence at 239-344-1736.
