Family seeking help for mold problem

CAPE CORAL, Fla -- "What did I put family in," asked Percy Williams. This was the question Percy Williams and his wife Esperanza have been asking themselves after finding a potential health hazard in their Cape Coral apartment.

"There was mold and as you can see some of it has been wiped because I have tried to clean it off but more is continuously growing back."

Growing all over their hats, school bags, shoes and underneath their carpet.

They asked management to change out the carpeting when they moved in June. But the Williams didn't get the response they were hoping for.

"The lady told me that they cannot do that. that I can either take it or leave it because they had other people on the waiting list," said Esperanza Williams.

They decided to take the place anyway with their five children. With the mold problem they face, Percy Williams wonders if it was the right call.

"I feel like they were better off where they were in an area with a lot of crime going on then over here where something is silently gonna kill them and quicker than just being a straight bullet," he said.

The health of the children made them take action again recently by sending photographs to the manager on Saturday.

A third party company was sent to the apartment to check things out. According to the property manager, contractors say the mold is from a lack of air conditioning. Management told Four In Your Corner in an e-mail saying, "I will personally be visiting the residents tomorrow to confirm the contractor's findings and discuss with the Williams' their requirements under the lease and their role in re-mediating and preventing the mold growth."

Preventing the mold is what the Williams want too, "because i don't want my family to be in this all I want is resolution."
