Hundreds were without power overnight on Captiva Island after a suspected drunk driver crashed into a utility pole.  Power has since been restored.

The crash happened around 7:30pm on Captiva drive south of Tween Waters.

A spokesperson for Lee County Electric Company now says that power has been restored to the area.

According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office, arriving deputies say the driver of the car, 34-year-old Maciej Kasprzycki of Hamilton, Ontario, had a strong odor of alcohol and stumbled and tripped during DUI tests.

He was arrested and charged with DUI causing property damage.

Many restaurants and resorts were affected.  FOX 4 spoke with Green Flash Restaurant.  They managed to remain open because they have a back-up generator, but staff there says they were told it will be difficult to get off the island overnight.

All roads have since reopened.
