Pelican Baseball Complex back in action

The Pelican Baseball Complex in southwest Cape has been host to several state tournaments over the years. After months of repairs a tornado caused earlier in the year, the park is open for a new season.

"We're ready to go," Coach Chris Risola said. "Baseball activities resume here starting today and next year its going to be even better."

Risola says the repairs cost $500,000 to take care of all the damage from the storms.

"Fortunately the city was able to come through and get us back at here quick," Risola said. "Trees were uprooted, bleachers were thrown in between houses across the street, concrete dug outs were turned to rubble it was unbelievable."

Parents like Heather Fellenstein have similar memories of what the complex looked like days after a tornado touched down.

"It was complete devastation," Fellenstein said. "Bleachers were everywhere in the middle of the field. The backstops looked like roller coasters they were all curved."

While there are still a few projects to complete, the complex is ready to host hundreds of players and their families.

"In the past three days I've been working on adrenaline," Coach Risola said. "I've been so excited to get things back together, seeing all the kids back together and back on this field - this is like a second home."
