LEE COUNTY, Fla. - A horrifying story in Lee County. A Four in Your Corner investigation revealing the torturous death a dog suffered, breaking her own teeth trying to free herself from a painful chain.

The Pit Bull named Diamond was unable to free herself from her agony and died trying.

Neighbors sickened to hear how the dog died at a home on Wheaton Avenue in Fort Myers.

While some celebrated the Fourth of July, a Pit Bull named Diamond slowly strangled herself. Her owner is 53 year old Gregory McKenney.

One woman who lives next door reacted saying, “It's not right."

Tied tight to a metal caging, the Pit Bull got caught up in a wire which wrapped around her neck.  The dog was so desperate to escape she broke her own teeth attempting to bite through the metal swivel hook she was tethered to. In a photo you can see a steel bolt still in her mouth.

A neighbor telling us, "I just don't see how people do dogs or any animal like that. It's wrong."

When investigators first got to the home, they say McKenney claimed both of his dogs were alive and well in the back yard.

Photos show that wasn't the case. Diamond was dead in broad daylight.  The other Pit Bull was scared and wet with its cage full of water.

McKenney admitted he hadn't checked on the dogs for the past 16 hours.

We went to speak with him but his home was locked tight. Neighbors are shocked and apparently afraid to say too much.

One woman saying, "I don't know him like that, I don't know none of them like that. I just stay away from them."

Four in Your Corner finds McKenney has been arrested 23 times in Lee County for aggravated assault, selling cocaine and grand theft.

McKenney was charged with one count of animal cruelty.  Investigators could have charged him with two counts but he agreed to give them his other pit bull.
