Shots fired in Punta Gorda road rage incident

Posted

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. -- FOX 4 was first on the scene in Charlotte County Tuesday night where sheriff's deputies say shots were fired in a road rage incident.

According to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office, it all started around 5:50pm when a car reportedly pulled out in front of another near Burnt Store Road.  The two drivers pulled over on Doredo Drive and started fighting, and deputies say that's when shots were fired by both men.

Both cars involved were damaged, but no one was injured.

Investigators say that the drivers, 24-year-old Logan Clarke of Miami and 38-year-old Jeffrey Hawkshead of Punta Gorda, gave conflicting accounts of the incident.  That, and a lack of witnesses, led investigators to not file any criminal charges in the case.

The case has been referred to the State Attorney's Office for review.
