Man says tree removal company ripped him off

A Fort Myers man turns to Four in Your Corner after trying to get a company to finish the work he paid them to do. He says the Landscaping company AMG Tree Removal Service has been dodging his elderly father.

John Barry says it started with a knock on the door.

"We were approached by them and my father said, 'Okay... I don't want to do this work, my son doesn't have the time to do this work...$750 sound alright?"

Barry's father and the owner of the landscaping company shook on it. In Barry's eyes, the handshake was a promise that AMG Tree Services and Landscaping would complete a list of yard work that included taking down a 40 foot tree.

"It was time for it to go because it was becoming a hazard should we have a hurricane," Barry said.

Barry tells Four In Your Corner the company only finished half of the work on the list and left a mess behind.

"They never came back. We text, we called, we emailed."

Barry's phone records show multiple outgoing calls to the company and his father also mailed the Landscaping company a certified letter.

"It was signed for and we have the copy of the signature."

The Barry's have not heard from them in weeks and now they're demanding answers.

"We wanted to give them the opportunity to make it right and they failed to do so," Barry said. "I want to ask them, 'What's going on with you guys? Why didn't you at least communicate with us? Give us an answer!"

According to the Better Business Bureau, AMG Tree Removal Service and Landscaping is not accredited. The local Fort Myers Business has a similar complaint to Barry's  posted on the Bureau's site, claiming a more expensive job was not completed.

The owner declined to do an on-camera interview but promised to get the job done by the end of the day.

"No one likes to be taken advantage of and It's not so much the money," Barry said. "We're more concerned about the next person getting ripped off."

We will update this story as soon as the company and client provides an update.
