GOLDEN GATE, Fla. — Controversy was stirred over a student’s Instagram post at St. John Neumann School. The post was made right before a big football game against a rival over the weekend causing the school to go on lock down Monday.
“Police officers did show up in the parking lot,” said Mike Lazar, a student at St. John Neumann describing the lock down. “The whole school went on a pause for maybe 23 minutes, we all sat in our classrooms. We heard the situation was about threatening messages on social media.”
A Collier County Sheriff’s report states the student responsible was holding “knives and guns” in the photos. It went on to state the photos were “old” and “reposted” prior to the game last Friday against Community School of Naples.
Students told Fox 4 that the caption on the photos was directed towards players on the CSN football team. The student is a football player for St. John Neumann.
A spokesperson for the Catholic school released a statement today, saying they are “aware of an off-campus social media posting” and will be conducting an internal review to see if the school’s social media “policy was violated.”
Nevertheless, they explained that no students were in danger. Mike agreed.
“I don’t think it was that much of a danger. I think it was just an over-reactive situation and I’m pretty sure everything’s back to normal now,” he said.
It’s not clear if the student will face consequences from the school, but Collier County says the situation is still under investigation.
Community School of Naples declined to comment.
