Time runs out on old SunPass transponders

Posted
FLORIDA - Time is running out to replace those battery-operated SunPass transponders.

Starting January 1st, they will no longer work on Florida roads. Customers can swap the battery operated model for a new portable model or permanent sticker tag at no cost.

The Tampa Tribune reports that 1.7 million SunPass customers have upgraded to the new, slimmer devices, but the Florida Department of Transportation says as many as 100,000 customers are still using the old devices.

The swap comes as Congress is requiring that all toll roads be able to accept transponders from any state by October.

If you need to replace your transponder, call 855-824-7927 or go to Sunpasstagswap.com for more details.
