Tis the season for stealing and re-gifting! At holiday parties, the gloves come off when the secret Santa hats go on and we got manners expert, Thomas Farley, to share all the acceptable "do's" and "don'ts".
1. Know Your Audience
Make sure that you know your audience and the gift that you bring should entertain. People should be laughing at how funny it is, but it shouldn't inappropriate where people are actually horrified at what they're seeing.
2. Mind Your Monetary Manners
You're bringing a gift that is far more for the entertainment value than it is for the monetary value. There's no such thing as a too cheap white elephant gift, but there definitely is such thing as spending way too much.
3. Manage Gift Expectations
There's only going to be one or two standout gifts and the rest will be probably be junk so go in with low expectations.
4. Stick to the Rules
It is important that the host sets down rules in advance because like with any game there are going to be different house rules between each exchange.
5. Stealing is Good
You are allowed to steal, so embrace it! Take the one chance a year where stealing is not only legal, it's encouraged.
